Offaly's Alex Dunne on top of F2 World Championship after a brilliant win in at times torrential rain at Spa Francochamps in Belguim.

Having blown away the field in qualifying in the dry on Friday, the Offaly driver was masterful in very challenging conditions on Sunday morning to claim the win and move back to the top of the F2 Championship.

With the majority of the title contenders further back the field, Alex Dunne took full advantage to claim the maximum points for the win.

With the Race Director deciding to have a rolling start, the Offaly man got away well at the start and pulled away from the field.

He was pulled before the pit stops as his tyres went off and as he exited the pits, he was put under huge pressure by Roman Stanek but he kept the Czech driver behind him. He then had to get past Ollie Goethe who had yet to pit and he did so with a tremendous move around the outside.

After that he pulled away from the field and was well in the lead when the safety car was deployed with just three laps to go.

After another incident behind the safety car, the race was eventually stopped with a lap to go leaving Alex the winner and the new Championship leader.

He leads Richard Verschoor, who led coming into the weekend by 15 points with five rounds of the D2 Championship remaining.

He will be back on the track next weekend at the Hungaroring in Budapest.
