Six outdoor projects across Offaly receive funding of €256,000

Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme funding to be matched by council

SIX new projects have received funding to the tune of €256,000 under the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme, with an additional match funding requirement of €28,500 from Offaly County Council.

The list of the successful projects and the associated funding amounts is as follows - Croghan Hill upgrade works €40,000, Offaly Way & ancillary loops at Kilcormac and Lough Boora €40,000, Slieve Bloom destination content creation €36,000, Slieve Bloom loops at Cadamstown and Kinnitty €40,000, Clara to Streamstown Cycling and Walking Amenity €50,000, Pallas Lake – Fishing and looped Walk development €50,000.

The funding was announced by the the Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary TD.

Speaking after the announcement, Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council, Cllr John Leahy said “ORIS funding provides support for the necessary repair, maintenance, enhancement, and promotion of existing outdoor recreational infrastructure in rural areas across Offaly. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the communities who engaged with Offaly County Council to prepare these projects as it is evident the partnership approach between the Local Authority and Community groups is working well.”

On hearing the announcement Offaly County Council’s, Deputy Chief Executive, Fiona Millane said, “I very much welcome today’s announcement which sees a further 6 projects supported through the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme. Funding provided under this scheme will deliver and enhance our recreational offering, which is of huge importance to us from a community well-being perspective, as well as being a catalyst for tourism in rural areas.

Offaly County Council intend to progress these projects in partnership with the community groups involved. The Minister will announce the larger scale projects under measure 2 & 3 of the 2024/2025 Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme in the coming months.
