Shane Lowry selected for Ryder Cup after getting captain's pick
Shane Lowry has been selected for the European Ryder Cup team after getting a captain's pick from Luke Donald.
The Offaly golfer narrowly missed out on automatic selection after a quirk in the scoring system meant there were no Ryder Cup points on offer at the PGA tour Championship.
With six automatic places available, Shane finished seventh on the list after the weekend on 1275 points, less than four points behind Tyrell Hatton.
He was the first captain's pick announced by Luke Donald and it will be Shane's third Ryder Cup in a row having played in Whistling Straits and in Rome.
Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Rasmus Højgaard and Tyrrell Hatton were the six automatic picks.
Spanish golfer John Rahm was the second captain's pick.
Austria's Sepp Straka is the next captain's pick.
Norway's Viktor Hovland has also received a captain's pick from Luke Donald.
Sweden's Ludvig Aberg is the second last captain's pick.
And the final captain's pick is England's Matt Fitzpatrick.
The full European Team for the Ryder Cup is: Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Rasmus Højgaard, Tyrrell Hatton, Shane Lowry, John Rahm, Sepp Straka, Viktor Hovland, Ludvig Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick.
