Ireland is in for some windy and at times very wet weather in the coming days according to a leading weather forecaster.

In his latest weather forecast, Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel says that there will be a distinct chill in the air this week and for the coming seven to ten days Ireland will be exposed to a fresh and at times gusty westerly wind, which is set to feed in plenty of heavy, locally thundery showers, with even a little hail for some as well.

According to his latest weather forecast, it will remain cloudy for many eastern and northern areas today with sunshine and showers following elsewhere. Highs of 15-17 degrees at best in a fresh west wind.

He says that Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be very similar days overall with plenty of heavy and thundery showers sweeping eastwards on the back of at times a gusty westerly wind. It will feel cool in the wind, especially under some of the heavier showers.

Some sunshine as well in between the showers, but overall it’s a very unsettled picture to close out the week with a deep area of low pressure set to bring spells of heavy rain or showers countrywide on Sunday, though a named storm seems unlikely now.

He warns that winds however will reach gale force on Irish waters from Carnsore Point, to Mizen Head, to Slyne Head, to Erris Head, to Malin Head and finally to Fair Head, and later on Irish Sea waters as well. If you have any ferry bookings sailing conditions will be rough on Sunday.
