POSITIVE Ageing Week is an Age Action initiative to celebrate the contributions of older people and to promote their agency and this year takes place from Friday 26th September – Friday 3rd October.
Events are organised around the country to emphasise the positive aspects of aging and the significant roles older individuals play in our communities and families. Positive Ageing Week happens yearly and aims to challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about aging and to highlight the positivity and vitality of older age.
The theme of Positive Ageing Week 2025 is to celebrate the power of connection across the generations. Ageing well isn’t just about living longer — it’s about living better, with meaning, joy, and a sense of belonging. One of the most powerful ways to achieve that is through intergenerational connections.
When older and younger generations come together, something magical happens. For over 20 years individuals, groups, local authorities and businesses have been organising events to mark Positive Ageing Week.
Offaly Older Person’s Network have always played an important role in Offaly Positive Ageing Week and this year it will also play its part. In 2022 the network hosted a very successful Fashion Show.

In 2023 Offaly Older Persons Network hosted the first Rambling House event to celebrate Positive Ageing Week and also in the following years. The winning formula of the Rambling House will be repeated again in 2025.
This Rambling House event will take place on Thursday 2nd October in Tullamore Rugby Club. The aim is to recreate the old rambling house where people enjoyed an evening of music, song, stories and craic with the event starting at 7.30pm. Admission for the not to be missed Rambling House event will be €10 and proceeds will go to Offaly Family Carers.
As usual there has been a great response to date from musicians and entertainers who eagerly expressed interest in being part of this Positive Ageing Week event. Tullamore Rugby Club will be the venue for what should be a most interesting and entertaining event.
