Roscrea Tennis Club have certainly had a very busy year to date with plenty of activities being held at their new clubhouse on the Dublin Road in Roscrea near Roscrea Leisure Centre complex.

The tournament committee recently held the Autumn Club Championships with the finals in Ladies, Mens & Mixed Doubles sections on Friday last. This was the last inhouse event before their upcoming Open Tournament this October sponsored by Premier Credit Union.

Last Friday evening, spectators were treated to some very exciting tennis at the finals of the Autumn Club Championships.
The results of the Ladies Doubles event saw Jenny Sayers and Margaret Hoctor battle hard in the rain to claim the win over Aoibheann Dwyer and Liz Carey.

In the Mens Doubles event, brothers Jack and Joe McCormack displayed great tennis rallies but were beaten in the end by John Thompson and Marc O’Meara.

In the Mixed Doubles, experienced players Teresa O’Neill and Robbie Tomlinson were the winners beating Margaret Feeney and Michael Breen.

Members of the Roscrea Club have enjoyed lots of different events this year with something for every level of player from beginner to competitive advanced.

Activities have included a weekly social tennis evening every Friday for newcomers to try tennis, supervised junior tennis, teen tennis, regular coaching and fitness classes with professional coaches for adults and juniors, a Pink Fun Day in aid of Breast Cancer Ireland raising €2,640 for the charity, and a series of club tournaments held over the spring and summer months.

The club even had a visit from An Taoiseach Micheal Martin last November to see the new clubhouse where he congratulated them on creating such a first class facility for the community!

Recent Successes

Two weeks ago, senior club players Robbie Tomlinson & Billy Woods both had great wins at the Limerick Senior Doubles Open at CIAC Tennis Club. The ladies also enjoyed a recent success, with Maugie Sheeran, Colette Ryan Hogan, Liz Hogan and Anne Marie Hennessy winning the Plate in Division 6 of the Midland League.

Premier Credit Union Open Tournament

A big date in the calendar for the club tournament organisers every year is the Premier Credit Union Open Tournament.
Once again, Premier Credit Union are kindly sponsoring this event.

Matches will run from Thursday 9 th until Friday 24 th October with games starting every evening at 7pm.

Spectators are welcome to come enjoy a cuppa while watching displays of fantastic games of tennis by players from around the midlands and surrounding areas.
