A Moldovan woman believed she was driving legally when she was stopped by Gardaí for no insurance, Tullamore District Court heard last week.
Before the court was Maria Braga (25) with an address at 5 Newberry Park, Tyrell's Lane, Edenderry.
Solicitor for the defendant Brian Duffy, told Judge Andrew Cody that when his client was stopped by the Gardaí on February 13, 2025 she believed she was insured to drive the vehicle.
The defendant believed the vehicle and not the driver must be insured - similar to the insurance system in her home country, Mr. Duffy said.
"She pleaded guilty on the first day once she understood the situation", Mr. Duffy said.

"It was a mistaken belief about Irish traffic laws", Mr. Duffy said and added his client had commenced a new job in a local hotel earlier this month and asked the Judge not to disqualify her from driving.
Judge Cody fined the defendant €700 with six months to pay and no disqualification from driving on this occasion.
