ALERT: Met Eireann issues countrywide Weather Warning as Storm Amy set to hit Ireland

Met Éireann has issued a countrywide Weather Warning as Storm Amy is set to hit Ireland on Friday.

Storm Amy has been named by the UK Met Office and will bring strong to near gale force and gusty southwesterly wind to Ireland.

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Wind Warning for all of Ireland from noon on Friday until midnight on Saturday. The UK Met Office has issued a Status Yellow Wind Warning for Northern Ireland

It warns that potential impacts include difficult travelling conditions, debris or loose objects being displaced with some fallen trees possible.

Separately Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow Rain Warning for 14 counties on Thursday. Met Éireann is warning that there will be widespread rain that will be heavy at times in Cavan, Donegal, Longford and all of Munster and Connacht. This warning is valid some 6am on Thursday until 8pm on Thursday.

The Met Éireann weather forecast for the coming days states that it will be wet and blustery on Thursday with widespread heavy rain, possibly leading to localised flooding. Southerly winds will increase fresh and gusty through the day, strong at times near coasts. Highest temperatures of 13 to 17 degrees.

Rain will clear to the east early in the night on Thursday, followed by well scattered showers and a few clear spells. Cloud will thicken in the west and south later with patchy rain developing near southwest coasts by morning. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.

According to Met Éireann, Friday will be a wet and very windy day with heavy rain quickly spreading northeastwards across the country through the morning. Strong to near gale force and gusty southwesterly winds will develop as the rain spreads, with gales or strong gales possible on western and northwestern coasts. Rain will clear eastwards to showers in the evening. Highest temperatures of 15 to 19 degrees.

Remaining windy overnight with heavy showers or longer spells of rain. Strong to near gale force winds with gales on western coasts, though winds will veer westerly and decrease fresh to strong by morning.

According to Met Éireann, it will be windy or blustery on Saturday with strong and gusty westerly winds. A brighter day though with sunny spells and showers. Cool with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.
