Vibrant community engagement at memorable event in Offaly

Tullamore Toastmasters joined by colleagues from Roscrea and across the Midlands at seminar

A DAY of vibrant community engagement, rich cultural appreciation, and insightful personal development was marked by Tullamore Toasters on Wednesday.

The meticulously planned agenda fostered connections and celebrated local talent, leaving attendees with lasting memories.

The event, held at the Bridge House Hotel, began with a warm welcome from Division F Director, Derek Walsh, who introduced District Director Mairead Dillon. Mairead Dillon's address set an inspiring tone for the day, emphasising key initiatives and goals.

Councillor John Leahy, Cathaoirleach of Offaly County Council, followed, underscoring the importance of public speaking and encouraging young people to join Toastmasters International—even suggesting a six-month membership as an ideal Christmas gift.

Attracta Ní Bhrádaigh of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann delivered a captivating talk on the history of Irish music, enlightening the audience about traditional instruments. Her subsequent musical performance was nothing short of brilliant, as she skilfully played both the fiddle and the flute, showcasing her exceptional talent and deep connection to Irish musical heritage.

The interactive Table Topics session, led by Catherine Ryan and Charles Malone, was a dynamic highlight. Participants honed their impromptu speaking skills in a supportive environment. The Mix and Mingle Tea Break session provided a relaxed setting for networking and building relationships.

Mark Bastow and Francis Keenan delivered excellent speeches, sharing compelling stories and insights. Francis Keenan delivered a speech about President Abraham Lincoln, while Mark Bastow transported the audience to ancient Greece with a tale of learning effective communication. Jillian Geraghty and Philip Holin provided constructive feedback, emphasizing continuous improvement.

The event culminated with an Awards & Closing presentation by District Director Mairead Dillon. A particularly special moment was the recognizing of Charles Malone as Toastmaster of the Year in District 71, celebrating his dedication and contributions. In addition, Greta Flynn was given a special award, recognizing her 25 years of dedication to Tullamore Toastmasters.

Following the awards, Mike Keenan, along with Mary McGuinness, paid a heartfelt tribute to Pat McAsey, the first president of Tullamore Toastmasters, sharing stories and song that honoured his legacy. Mike Keenan finished off the evening with a few fantastic songs in remembrance of Pat.

The organisers would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the management and staff of the Bridge House Hotel for their invaluable assistance and support in making the event a success.

Overall, the gathering in Tullamore was an enriching and enjoyable experience, celebrating community, culture, and the power of effective communication.
