The Kinnitty Golfing Society held their Captain’s Prize in the lovely surrounds of Esker Hills Golf Club recently.

With the weather on our side and spirits high, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day of golf – perhaps not quite at Ryder Cup standard, but still a pleasure to play on the same course where Shane Lowry honed his skills and all the more pleasing to see him sink that crucial putt on the 18th to ensure Europe retained the Ryder Cup.

Anyway, back to our own competition: Jerome Molloy emerged victorious with 35 points. Turning with 10, he produced a superb back nine to claim top honours.

Captain Mick Egan presented the prizes and took the opportunity to thank all who supported him throughout the year. He gave special recognition to Ray Bradley and Seán de Cleir for their tireless efforts in running the society. He also extended his gratitude to Esker Hills for their usual warm hospitality, with a particular thank you to Caroline for her invaluable help on the day.

The results were as follows: 1st Jerome Molloy, 2nd Damien Hussey, 3rd John Roche, Best Gross Gavin Corrigan, Front 9 Pat Cantwell, Back 9 Mark Corrigan, Longest Drive Jerome Molloy, Nearest the pin Neil Joe Maher. The golfer of the year was won be Niall Corrigan.

The society now looks ahead to next season under the stewardship of incoming captain Tony Carroll.
