Gardaí rush to scene amid reports of strange man banging on cars near Offaly schools

Gardaí arrived to the area at Killane Drive shortly after 1.15pm on Tuesday

Gardaí arrested two people after being called to a distressing scene near two schools in Edenderry on Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at Killane Drive, a housing estate adjacent to both Scoil Bhride and Gaelscoil Éadan Doire, two busy primary schools in the town.

Gardaí were called when a man began shouting at passersby in the area and banged on the windows of one woman's car in a frightening scene. There was concern for schoolchildren and parents who were due to be leaving school shortly after the incidents occurred.

Killane Drive is used by parents to collect kids from both schools with the estate busy with people walking and driving from 1pm until after 3pm.

Gardaí confirmed to Offaly Live that they responded to the reported public order incident in Killane Drive, Edenderry, Co. Offaly at approximately 1:15pm on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

They have both since been charged and are due to appear before Tullamore District Court at a later date.
