AN 85-year-old Borrisokane man pleaded guilty to an act of dangerous driving during the November 5 sitting of Tullamore Court.
Dan Rooney, Garryard, Borrisokane committed the offence at Ballywilliam, Kilcormac on February 19, 2025.
The defending solicitor Patrick Martin told the court that Mr Rooney is no longer driving. “He is an elderly gentleman who doesn't intend driving anymore. He is willing to hand over his driving licence.”
Sergeant Brendan Kearns commented that if the defendant were to hand over the driving licence it would be an act which should be looked favourably on.
Giving evidence, Garda Thomas Kennedy told the court that the accident occurred at 11.55am. “There was a line of traffic turning into the Faithful Fields and Mr Rooney clipped the rear of one of these cars. No one was seriously injured.”
Judge Andrew Cody convicted, adding that he would only fine €100 because the defendant had voluntarily handed over his driving licence.
