Plans unveiled for new glamping facilities in Offaly at prominent country house

Plans have been unveiled for the development of new glamping facilities in Offaly.

The development is planned at Mount Briscoe Country House in Daingean. The proposed project was revealed as part of a new planning application submitted on November 6 by Margaret Edgill who manages the estate which also contains an organic farm.

Edgill was recently named one of twelve new Farming for Nature Ambassadors for 2025 for her work at Mount Briscoe leading the way in nature-friendly farming.

The application includes plans for five new glamping structures and the associated ancillary works which will be connected to an existing wastewater treatment system. 

The planning application which currently has pre-validation status is also seeking permission for the retention of a raised platform to site a bell tent and an existing shepherd's hut to accommodate a treatment room at Mount Briscoe.

The details of the planning application confirm that no Integrated Pollution Control (IPC) license or waste license are required for the project. The proposed development is within the curtilage of a protected structure. 

The planning application may be inspected or purchased at a fee not exceeding the reasonable cost of making a copy at the offices of the planning Authority. 

Submissions and observations relating to the application may be made in writing to the planning authority on payment of the prescribed fee.

This must be carried out within a period of five weeks beginning on the date of receipt by the planning authority of the application in order to be considered.

The application states that any submissions or observations on the proposed development must be submitted by December 10, with the final decision on the planning permission taking place on January 9.
