Major work carried out at historically significant graveyard in Offaly

Major work has been carried out at graveyard in Offaly by a hard working local committee.

The work was carried out at Liss Church and Graveyard near Ballycumber.

The refurbished gates and railings have been returned to Liss and set back into their original position. The second pier was also taken down, a foundation was laid and the pier was rebuilt in position. This now completes the work which began last year.

It is hoped this work will enhance accessibility to this historically significant site. On Sunday last, a group of people came to view the completed work.

Standing beside the completed railings in the picture above are Robert Wilson, Declan Egan, Cian Egan, Sean Egan, Wendy Egan, Pat Kelly, Kitty Egan, Liam Egan, Willie Vaugh, Rachael Sammon-Egan, Margaret Cantwell, Kieran Egan, Martina Gaffey, Kathleen Egan, Angela Kelly, Lyndon Ross, Margaret Galvin, Kevin Henson, Kathleen Dunne, Ann Dunican, Tom Dunne, Nancy Dunne and Ena Wilson.

Thanks was extended to all who supported this project in any way over the last two years, and to David Gethings for taking the photos on Sunday last. Supported by the Heritage Council under the Community Heritage Grant Scheme 2025.
