Man arrested in Midlands in connection with cross border terror investigation

Gardaí suspect the man is linked to a far right group

Gardai are investigating an armed robbery in Kilmeague.

Gardaí have arrested a man in Portlaoise in connection with a cross border terrorism investigation linked to the far right.

The man in his 30s was arrested in Portlaoise on Thursday

The man is being detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 at a Garda Station in the midlands.

His arrest follows the arrest of two men in Portlaoise by gardai from Laois last week. They have since appeared before the courts.  

The investigation is being led by An Garda Síochána Special Detective Unit who liaised with the Police Service of Northern Ireland(PSNI) resulting in a search in Co Down.
