THIS year marks the 10th Anniversary of CRK (Carrig, Riverstown, Killeen) Drama Group and all involved are immensely proud of this achievement.
What began back in the first weekend of December of 2015, when Brendan Hanamy and Tony Dargan decided to bring people together to share their love of drama, has grown into something very special and an event that the whole communities of South Offaly and North Tipperary look forward to in late November-early December every year.
Our first play, ‘Too Close to Home’ by Jim Keary, took to the stage in the Carrig/Riverstown Community Hall that December – and to our delight, we played to a packed hall on each of the three nights, a trend that has continued for all the shows we performed. That amazing start has set us on a journey that is still going strong 10 years later!
Following our debut success, we continued to bring laughter and entertainment to our audiences year after year. We followed in 2016 with ‘Run for Your Wife’; ‘Don’t Dress for Dinner’ in 2017; ‘Babysitting Calvin’/’Last of the Mohicans’ in 2018 and ‘Through the Chair’ in 2019. Like so many groups, we took an enforced break during Covid years, 2020 and 2021, but returned with great energy and enthusiasm, performing ‘It Runs in the Family’ in 2022, ‘Out of Order’ in 2023, and ‘Anyone can Rob a Bank’ in 2024.
This year CRK Drama Group take to the stage in Carrig & Riverstown Community Hall on November 20th, 21st and 22nd with their hilarious production of 'Cupid Wore Skirts', a three act play by Sam Cree. Well known for his plays full of fun and frolics, this play will not disappoint.
Cupid Wore Skirts is an hilarious comedy in which widower Andrew Coulter ill-advisedly bets his abrasive sister in-law that he will be remarried within a week and promptly puts an advert in the personal column of the local paper.
What follows is the usual antics as three highly unsuitable women line up as potential wives and a number of classic Sam Cree farcical situations unfold with hilarious results. The action takes place in the living room at the rear of Andrew Coulter’s antique shop in a busy city, where he is joined by Grandad and his son Brian.

As we look back on these wonderful years of drama in Carrig and Riverstown, we would like to thank everyone who has supported us along the way, casts, crews, our loyal audiences and our many, many volunteers who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes. We keep in our thoughts those in CRK Drama who are no longer with us, especially our dear friend Dermot Sullivan.
Finally, here’s to another decade of laughter, friendship and in particular, community spirit – and to many more nights of CRK Drama.
