Phil and Celine O'Reilly with the Tullamore fans. Alo Scully is holding the Dowling Cup
TULLAMORE and Offaly football legend, Phil O'Reilly had a pleasant surprise on Sunday morning last as he celebrated his 90th birthday with his wife, Celine.
Phil, who is now a resident in Bethany House in Tyrellspass, was visited by Tullamore fans, including his son Phil Jr, as they made their way to the Offaly senior football champions clash with The Downs in the Leinster club senior football championships quarter-final
The fans – who were travelling to Mullingar in a packed bus organised by Brian and Ray Digan of Digan's public house – included another Tullamore football great, Joe Bracken.
Phil Snr and Joe were members of the Tullamore senior football team which won the county championships in 1954. The only other surviving member of that panel is Eamonn Fox.
The Tullamore fans enjoyed a great spectacle in Mullingar with their side defeating The Downs on a scoreline of 3-13 to 4-8.
