CAPITAL works for St. Joseph’s National School in Arden View, Tullamore have been approved by the Department of Education.
The project, which will deliver a significant extension for the school community, will be delivered under the Department’s Modular Framework Programme, ensuring a modern, efficient, and timely build.
This news follows this week’s announcement of approval granted to Scoil Shinchill in Killeigh, marking two substantial steps forward in addressing school accommodation needs in the county.
The news has been welcomed by local Government TDS Deputy Tony McMcCormack and Deputy John Clendennen.
“I am very pleased to confirm the approval of these capital works for St. Joseph’s National School. This extension will provide much-needed additional space and will greatly support both students and staff. Coming on the heels of the positive announcement for Scoil Shinchill in Killeigh, it reflects sustained progress in delivering improved school accommodation across the county,” commented Deputy Clendennen.
Deputy Tony McCormack outlined: "The achievement at St. Joseph’s is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the Principal and the Board of Management, whose strong leadership and commitment to the students played a key role in advancing the project. Their advocacy underscores a shared priority across both schools: putting students’ needs at the heart of every decision."

Deputy Clendennen added that he will continue to advocate for progress on school accommodation across the county.
“Ensuring our schools have the facilities they need remains a priority. I will continue to work closely with the Department of Education, schools, and their communities to support further progress right across the county,” concluded the Fine Gael man.
Deputy McCormack added: "Education in Offaly has received a significant boost this week with capital project approvals granted to two local primary schools — St. Joseph’s National School in Tullamore and St. Shinchill National School in Killeigh. These approvals mark important steps forward in ensuring modern, high-quality learning environments for children across the county.
"St. Shinchill NS, Killeigh, received approval for new accommodation works. This project will support the school’s growing enrolment and provide improved space for students and teachers. The news has been warmly welcomed by the local community, who have long advocated for upgraded facilities that reflect the needs of their children.
"Tuesday brought further positive news for St. Joseph’s NS, Tullamore, as the school secured initial project approval for significant capital works. These upgrades will directly enhance the day-to-day learning experience of the pupils, offering additional accommodation and improved facilities designed to support academic and personal development.
"These developments represent much more than infrastructural investment — they are meaningful commitments to Offaly’s young people and their futures. As both St. Joseph’s NS and St. Shinchill NS progress with their projects, local families, staff, and representatives can look forward to the benefits these modern facilities will bring in the years ahead.
"Offaly continues to take confident steps toward providing the best possible educational environment for every child, and this week’s announcements are clear milestones on that journey."
