FIANNA FAIL TD for Offaly, Tony McCormack, has confirmed that the N52 Tullamore–Kilbeggan Link Road is now formally included in the National Development Plan (NDP) and has been upgraded to the advanced for future construction category in the latest NDP sectoral updates.

Deputy McCormack said this marks a significant and long-awaited step forward for one of the Midlands most strategically important road projects.

“This issue has been at the heart of the community for years and the need for this upgrade is widely recognised. I know how much this means to the Durrow community, not just in terms of improved safety on their own doorstep but also in terms of how it strengthens connectivity across the entire county. This project will support enterprise, investment and future opportunities in tourism.”

“Since being elected, I have been working closely with my Fianna Fáil colleague, Minister for Transport Darragh O’Brien, to help ensure this project is finally progressed.”

“Being recognised at advanced for future construction is a major milestone and confirms that the N52 Link Road has a firm place within the National Development Plan.”

Deputy McCormack noted that improving this route will deliver significant safety benefits, reduce pressure on local communities and unlock new possibilities for business, logistics, tourism and inward investment across Offaly and the wider Midlands.

“As I have said in the past, this project will take time, but I will be pushing to keep it moving through each stage as smoothly as possible. The preferred route is selected and Transport Infrastructure Ireland has the documentation ready to progress. I will continue to work closely with Minister O’Brien and the relevant authorities throughout this project to ensure it is delivered for the community.”
