Clara man takes over as Offaly GAA secretary with vacancy for communications officer to be filled

THE big change in the Management Committee of Offaly GAA at Convention on Wednesday evening was the election of a new secretary.

Clara man Padraig O'Meara was elected unanimously, replacing Shamrocks' Brendan Minnock who opted out after one year in the role.

O'Meara has been a very effective Communications Officer for the past four years and his promotion has created a vacancy for that position – clubs have an opportunity to nominate and it is hoped to fill this at the first County Board meeting in January.

The other officers were all re-elected unopposed with Coolderry's Tom Parlon and Doon's Frank Fitzpatrick back for a second year as chairman and treasurer.

Chairman – Tom Parlon, Coolderry;

Vice chairperson – Denis Hoctor, Carrig-Riverstown;

Secretary – Padraig O'Meara, Coolderry;

Assistant secretary – Pat Teehan, Coolderry;

Treasurer – Frank Fitzpatrick, Doon;

Assistant treasurer – Fr Arnold Rosney, Birr;

Communications officer – to be filled;

Coaching officer – Carina Carroll, Ballinamere;

Officer for Irish language and culture – Niamh Clarke, Tullamore;

Central Council representative – Michael Duignan, Durrow;

Leinster Council representatives – Declan Ward (Crinkle) and Ciaran Groome (Bracknagh).

Officers will put forward names for the roles of planning and training officer, safety and facilities officer, children's officer and Coiste na nOg chairperson.
