Jason Donegan, right, in Valencia
OFFALY athlete Jay Donegan, a proud member of the well-known Donegan running family and former Tullamore Harriers standout, delivered an exceptional performance at the Valencia Marathon on December 7th.
Now living and working in Manchester, Jay lined up for his adopted club Sale Harriers, making his marathon debut on one of the fastest courses in Europe. Despite a challenging build-up that included a few untimely niggles and a necessary reduction in training volume, Jay produced an outstanding run, clocking an impressive 2 hours, 43 minutes and 49 seconds.
The performance is all the more remarkable given the disrupted preparation, showcasing Jay’s determination, resilience and natural talent.

Looking ahead, Jay has his sights firmly set on returning to the marathon stage within the next two years, this time wearing the Tullamore Harriers singlet once again. His goal is ambitious but well within reach: to break the 2 hour 35 minute mark.
A superb debut effort from a local athlete continuing to make his community proud.
