Toss to decide outcome as Offaly v Antrim Walsh Cup tie called off

Offaly and Antrim in action in Tullamore last year

A TOSS will decide the outcome following the cancellation of Sunday's Walsh Cup senior hurling tie between Offaly and Antrim.

The game was scheduled to take place at 2.00pm in O'Connor Park but the decision to postpone was made before the Antrim team made the long trek south.

There has been heavy frost over the last two nights and while there will be a bit of a thaw before 2.00pm, the stand will prevent the whole pitch being cleared and the decision to cancel the game was a correct one.

Under new regulations for the O'Byrne and Walsh Cups, a toss will now decide whether Offaly or Antrim advance to a semi-final against Galway or Kildare next weekend. With such a tight window before the National Hurling and Football Leagues start on January 24/25, it was agreed that there will be no rescheduled games.
