Tributes are being paid to Francis 'Franco' Kelly from Granard

The victim of Saturday’s road traffic accident in Longford has been named as father of five, Francis Kelly, from Granard.

Mr Kelly, aged in his mid-30’s, tragically died following a collision involving two cars and a van. The crash occurred at approximately 7pm just after the Edgeworthstown roundabout on the Longford town side of the N4.

A second man in his 30s, who was also involved in the crash, was taken to hospital where he is being treated for injuries described as “serious but non-life threatening.”

Today tributes were paid to the popular young man affectionately known as ‘Franco’ with many also expressing their shock and sadness at the news of his passing.

Mr Kelly, who is predeceased by his sister Rosaleen and brother Pa, is survived by his partner Stephanie Nugent and their five children, his parents Francie and Bernie, his brother Thomas, and sister Cathríona.

Motorists with dash cam footage who were travelling in the Edgeworthstown area between 6:30pm and 7:15pm yesterday January 3 are asked to contact Longford Gardaí on 043 33 50570.
