An Post services are expected to resume in Tom Doolan’s Spar shop at Blueball in the near future following a meeting between the owner and the postal service on Thursday morning, January 8.

The issue originally happened on Monday, December 29 when the An Post services at the store abruptly ceased without prior notice.

This was caused after An Post agency services were terminated following an Eir fibre broadband upgrade that was found to be incompatible with the An Post IT network.

This meant the shop couldn't operate their Post Office leaving many residents, particularly elderly and vulnerable people forced to travel into Tullamore to collect their payments over the New Year period. In some cases, individuals were unable to access their money at all, causing significant distress and inconvenience.

Over the past week, local representatives including Tony McCormack TD, Councillor Ollie Bryant and Carol Nolan TD have been urging An Post and the Department of Communications to prioritise the restoration of the Blueball service.

Their aim was to ensure that communities are never again left without essential services due to technical changes implemented without adequate planning or communication.

Tony McCormack TD has hailed the positive developments on the restoration of An Post Services at the popular shop on the outskirts of Tullamore.

He stated: "This is very welcome news for the local community, I want to commend Tom Doolan for his persistence and thank An Post for their engagement, as well as Cllr Ollie Bryant for his work on this issue."

Both Tony McCormack and Cllr Ollie Bryant will continue to liaise with all parties to ensure the service is restored as quickly as possible.
