Local Gardaí warn about surge in particular form of phone scam

Local Gardaí have given advice on how to be alert to phone scammers

Local Gardaí are advising people to be cautious of a phone scam currently surging in the Offaly and Tipperary region.

"Please beware of a scam currently circulating where persons are calling broadband and phone customers on the pretense that their routers and hardware contain virus or corrupted files," the Gardaí said.

"These people have a high level of detail and are extremely convincing. Do not give any details or agree to download any apps or programs to any devices in any circumstances.

"If in doubt hang up and call a verified service supplier of your broadband or phone provider", the Gardaí warned.
