Planning permission sought for extension at Roscrea school

St. Anne's Special Needs School in Roscrea

A planning application has been lodged for a significant expansion of St. Anne’s Special School in Roscrea.

The Roscrea school's proposal, submitted by the school’s board of management, was received by Tipperary County Council on January 12th and is currently under consideration.

A decision is due by March 8. At the heart of the application is a new single storey extension measuring 1,362 square metres to the side of the existing school building.

The planned development would provide six additional classrooms along with a library, clinical rooms and sensory spaces.
A range of ancillary support areas is also included, alongside a courtyard designed as a play space for pupils.

The plans extend beyond teaching accommodation. The application also seeks permission for an extension to the existing boiler room, the creation of an accessible covered set down area and a reconfigured parking layout.

A new wastewater treatment system forms part of the proposal, together with all associated site works.

The site lies within the curtilage of Corville House at Sean Ross Abbey, which is a protected structure listed under the Record of Protected Structures.
