Mary and other volunteers at the parkrun on Saturday
At the weekend, Mountlucas parkrun saw over 100 walkers, joggers and runners take part. The parkrun has had more than 100 participants at every event so far in 2026.
Steven Alder and Neil McDonough had flown in from UK that morning to complete Mountlucas parkrun.
Steven has completed 453 parkruns while Neil has completed an amazing 525 parkruns, and they said the wind turbines at Mountlucas parkrun made it one of their favourite parkruns.
There were also two milestones achieved at the event.
Shane Canavan completed his 25th parkrun. Shane is a regular at Mountlucas parkrun, along with his wife Sharon and three young boys.
The second milestone achieved was Mary Dunne's 150th time volunteering. Mountlucas parkrun, and indeed any other parkrun, could not take place without the support and contribution of volunteers, and Mary is a core part of the volunteer team at Mountlucas parkrun.
The volunteer role which she has most often fulfilled is "first timers welcome" where she provides information and advice to those attending the parkrun who haven’t completed Mountlucas parkrun previously.
Speaking to Mary after the event she said "I love volunteering, it's a great way to meet and interact with all parkrunners." And it's certainly a role that suits Mary well as she is an incredibly warm and chatty person, well liked by all those who meet her.
