A MAN, with an address in Tullamore, pleaded guilty to intoxication in public and being in possession of a sharply pointed knife, during the January 14 sitting of Tullamore District Court.
Zitalii Almoz, 2B Edgewater, Convent Road, Tullamore committed the offences on Church Road, Tullamore on November 30 last.
He was charged with being in possession of a knife “which had a blade which was sharply pointed.”
Sergeant Brendan Kearns told the court that on November 30 Almoz was seen walking down the street by the Gardai.
“He was very unsteady on his feet and intoxicated,” commented Sgt Kearns. “When they searched him they found a silver handled knife in his pocket.”

The defending solicitor Patrick Martin said his client is 54 years of age and married, with one daughter.
“He had been at his daughter's engagement party that day,” remarked Mr Martin.
"The knife in his jacket was used for barbecuing during the party.”
Mr Almoz is a Ukrainian national and had no previous convictions.
“He is here on a resident's permit and is working. I would ask you Judge to please be as lenient as possible.”
Judge Andrew Cody convicted and fined €500 for the possession of the knife, and ordered its destruction.
He also fined the defendant €250 for being intoxicated in public.
