PICTURES: Tullamore and District Angling Club holds annual Hogan Cup fishing competition

The open pike angling competition which is the club's biggest event of the year was held on February 15

Tullamore and District Angling Club held their annual open pike angling competition for the Hogan Cup on February 15.

It marked the club’s biggest pike angling event of the year which is dedicated to the memory of Jim Hogan, a well-known Tullamore club angler.

There was a strong turnout for the fishing competition with 41 anglers supporting the event with 40 pike caught over the duration of the tournament. 

The winner was John Donnellan who caught 2 pike for a a combined weight of 23lb securing him the Jim Hogan Memorial trophy. He also took home prizes for the heaviest bag and heaviest fish of the day.

Damien Lawlor finished in second place who caught 2 pike throughout the competition weighing up to 16lb 7oz. In third place was Pat Foran, who caught 5 pike throughout the day weighing up to 12lb 12oz.

The club returned to the Fergies Bar for their prize-giving ceremony where the anglers enjoyed hot food and refreshment after another successful outing for the annual memorial competition. 

The club would like to thank the Hogan family for sponsoring the event and supplying the beautiful prizes to be raffled off, ensuring everyone left with something.

Tullamore and District Angling Club will host the next and last pike competition until October on February 22.
