The countdown is officially underway and the entrants are preparing for one of the annual highlights in Roscrea.

The shop window displays are turning green. The shamrock is standing to attention as it awaits its ‘big day’. That familiar feeling of Irish pride is tangible. It can only mean one thing - St. Patrick’s Day is fast approaching!

Roscrea, as one of the oldest towns in the country, is proud to host its 46th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, and is hoping to make it yet another one to remember.

It’s a big undertaking and one that several towns across the country have abandoned – but not Roscrea! A small but dedicated Committee continues to keep it alive and well with the support of all those who take part.

This year the Committee is very proud to welcome Anne Keevey as Guest of Honour.

A most deserving recipient of a National Inspirational Hero Award, Anne has been at the forefront of caring for the elderly in Roscrea and is the founder of ‘Age Friendly Roscrea’.

The committee is currently compiling a list of entries for this year's Parade.

Those interested in taking part to celebrate our National Day, are invited to contact Chairman Shane at (086) 3296667 or PRO Anne at (087) 1807772.

The parade will assemble at 2.45p.m. at the old Tesco Car Park (Lourdes Road), proceed down Church Street, up Castle Street and finish at end of Main Street.

The Prizegiving will take place immediately after the Parade.

The Parade insurance covers accidents arising out of errors on the part of the personnel involved with the organisation of the Parade. It does not, however, extend to damage or activities caused by negligence on the part of entrants in the Parade. All entrants are asked to have their own insurance cover.

The success of the Parade will be determined by the support it receives.

Please consider taking part or, if that is not possible, come along and cheer on the entrants on the day, have fun and celebrate what St. Patrick’s Day means to all of us.
