‘The Maiden Aunt’ is one of Jimmy Keary’s best-known plays - a lively, character driven comedy that blends heart, mischief and a touch of mayhem in true Jimmy Keary fashion. Jimmy Keary is one of Ireland’s most contemporary playwrights, known for his warm, witty comedies that celebrate rural life, colourful characters and the gentle chaos of community. A native of Westmeath, he has written numerous stage plays that have become firm favorites with amateur drama groups across the country.
This year marks the 22nd anniversary of Coolderry Drama Group and all involved are immensely proud of this achievement. The genesis of the group grew from the vision and foresight of Lucy Carey, Fr Kieran Blake and Billy Nevin. They saw potential for theatre in the parish to enrich the lives of participants and numerous audiences through the years.
Coolderry Drama Group are delighted that one of their own has taken on the role of director this year. Sue Cleary has stepped to the other side of the stage for the first time, embracing the challenge with enthusiasm and energy. The Coolderry Drama Group wishes Sue every success in her directorial debut!
