Offaly man wins two gold medals at World Indoor Rowing Championships

Ken McDonald from Moneygall won two gold medals.

KEN McDonald from Moneygall won two gold medals in the World Indoor Rowing Championships on Saturday last.

His successes came in the one minute event and the 1,000m final.
Ken broke his own World record of 366m which he had set a week earlier in the heats recording a new world record of 373 metres for the one minute timed event.
Ken weighed in at 74.8 kilos having dropped seven kilos since Christmas in order to race at lightweight under 75kg. His body fat was measured at 6.3%. Ken went on to win hold in the 1km event in the same day setting a time of 3 mins.07 seconds.
Ken is a Garda instructor at the the Garda Training College. He is an ex-international rower with seven world records and multiple world championships, on and off the water.
