All you need to know as Offaly's Shane Lowry bids for major success at Masters in Augusta

Lowry will be looking to improve on his best finish of 3rd at the 2022 Masters this weekend in Augusta

Offaly's Shane Lowry will be aiming for major glory at the 2026 US Masters at Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia this weekend.

Lowry will be bidding to win his second major by getting his hands on the coveted green Jacket at the iconic tournament which commences on Thursday, April 9.

Lowry's record at Augusta

Lowry has played at the Masters ten times with his best finish coming in the 2022 Masters where he finished tied 3rd behind winner Scottie Scheffler and runner-up Rory McIlroy.

Out of his ten appearances, he has made the cut seven times and also finished 16th and 21st in 2023 and 2021 at Augusta. However, in his most recent appearance at the Masters Tournament, in 2025, he finished tied 42nd.

He will be looking to improve on that record this weekend and add to his major tally alongside his memorable Open Championship win in 2019.

Recent form heading into the Masters

It's been a positive spell for Lowry heading into this years edition, he enjoyed a historic moment by holing the putt to help Europe retain the Ryder Cup in dramatic fashion at Bethpage Black in New York back in September.

He followed this up with strong showings across several tournaments since the turn of the year, this included finishing runner-up at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches in March. However, the brilliant performance was marred by a late collapse which saw him lose a three-shot lead with two double-bogeys on the 16th and 17th in the final round.

Lowry spoke to Sky Sports this week about the lessons he can take from the Cognizant Classic heading into the Masters.

He acknowledged: "That was really hard, I didn't have time to digest it all and take the good stuff from it, its dwells on you for a while but over the last few weeks, I think I've done a good job, I had a good week in Houston and a good practise week, I feel like I'm in a good place."

He added: "I've had a few chances to win tournaments this year which is always nice, I know what it feels like to be in contention and if I do that again this week then at least I know I've learned from that experience."

The Offaly man also placed 8th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February in another solid performance. Meanwhile, his most recent outing at the end of March at the Texas Children's Houston Open saw him finish 28th.

Tee-times and playing partners

There will be 91 players in the field for the opening men's major of the year. Lowry will play his first two rounds alongside America's Dustin Johnson and Australia's Jason Day.

Lowry's playing partners have distinguished histories at the prestigious tournament. Dustin Johnson will be making his 16th Masters start this weekend.

He won the Masters in 2020 by five strokes over Sungjae Im and Cameron Smith at 20-under-par setting a new Tournament scoring record in the process.

Jason Day will be making his 15th Masters appearance. The Australian has finished inside the top 10 at Augusta National five times, including runner-up in his Tournament debut in 2011, 3rd in 2013 and 8th in 2025.

The trio will begin their round at 2:43pm Irish time tomorrow as they look to make an impression amongst the elite field in Georgia.

What is Lowry saying ahead of the tournament

When asked about his chances of donning the famous green jacket on Sunday evening, Lowry told Sky Sports: "You try not to think about stuff like that, it's fairytale stuff, it generally doesn't happen so you try not too think about it too much."

The Clara man continued: "I'm here this week and Rory (McIlroy) will be handing over the green jacket to the next champion, my plan is to be here at the weekend and hopefully give myself a chance going around the back-nine on Sunday."

Lowry also spoke of the prospect of being joined by his children on the 18th green as a Masters champion on Sunday evening. He stated: "That would be pretty special, it's a special week for all the family, my kids are very excited."

He concluded by saying: "I try to enjoy it the best I can, I never take for granted being here at the Masters or playing this game for a living so I'm trying to take it all in. Once it comes to the first tee on Thursday, I'm going to give it my best and that's all I can do really."

Lowry will be hoping to join his good friend Rory McIlroy as a Masters champion this weekend. His quest for glory at Augusta will begin on Thursday as fans can look forward to a tremendous weekend of golf as always throughout the Masters.
