The rain mercifully stayed away for this week’s Mountlucas parkrun, allowing more than 70 walkers, joggers and runners to enjoy a dry, if blustery, Saturday morning on the course.

While the wind presented an added challenge, spirits were high as participants of all abilities completed the weekly five-kilometre event.

It was a particularly memorable morning with two official parkrun milestones celebrated. Sandra Craig marked a significant achievement by completing her 25th parkrun, while Catherine Bennett reached the remarkable milestone of 250 parkruns.

Adding to the sense of local pride, both Sandra and Catherine have completed all of their combined 300 parkruns at Mountlucas, a testament to their commitment to the event and the strong community that has developed there over the years.

Catherine was joined on the day by her sistet Margaret and Margaret's daughters Annie and Sarah.

Speaking to Catherine after the event she said: "What can I say- Parkrun is a great start to the weekend, I hate missing it. There is a lovely atmosphere up there and everyone is in good form and everyone has time to have a chat. Great to reach my 250th run and all completed in Mountlucas!"

There was also cause for celebration for Karen Neary, a familiar and much-valued face at Mountlucas parkrun, who recently completed her 200th parkrun at another location. Although her milestone wasn’t officially marked on the morning, fellow participants were quick to acknowledge and congratulate her achievement.

As always, Mountlucas parkrun showcased the welcoming and supportive atmosphere that has made it such a popular weekly fixture, with volunteers giving generously of their time to ensure the event ran smoothly. Newcomers and regulars alike enjoyed the sense of camaraderie that defines parkrun, proving once again that Mountlucas is about more than just the run — it’s about community.
