The musicians, singers and dancers in Killeigh Comhaltas are busy putting the final touches to preparations for their 23 hour musathon – a marathon traditional Irish music session that will start with the parade in Tullamore at 11.30am on St Patrick’s Day and finish at 10.30am on Friday, March 18.

Killeigh’s lovely new home, Teach Ceoil Chill Aichidh, Offally Street, Tullamore, will host the monster session and all musicians, singers and dancers are welcome to come along and join in.

Music for Ashling will last for 23 hours to celebrate the 23 years of Ashling Murphy’s life.

Ashling was a gifted traditional Irish musician who played fiddle, whistle and flute.

She was also an uilleann pipes student. With the blessing of the Ashling’s family, the branch is raising funds for Offaly Domestic Violence Support Services. The gofundme page set up has already taken in over €1,000.

The branch is hoping that this figure will be doubled by the end of the music marathon. Collectors will be in Tullamore with buckets during the parade and people will be welcome to donate to this very good cause.

People attending the marathon music session will be invited to donate at the Teach Ceoil. The gofundme page can be accessed on the Killeigh Comhaltas facebook page if people wish to donate there.
