Students from Gaelscoil na Laochra Birr demonstrating their computer coding skills to Minister Damien English on his recent visit to the I-LOFAR radio telescope at Birr Castle.
PUPILS from third class in Gaelscoil na Laochra in Birr had the chance to demonstrate their coding expertise when Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation Damien English visited Birr Castle last week.
The Minister was in town to visit the I-Lofar Education Centre in Birr Castle. The pupils gladly explained their process and expertly demonstrated their knowledge and understanding to all in attendance at the event.
Using some VEX robotics equipment provided to them by Ray Bell of Offaly County Council, the pupils enthusiastically captured the visitors' attention, who were impressed with the high level the pupils have already reached with coding and robotics.
STEM education is a huge part of school life in Gaelscoil na Laochra and pupils are provided with lots of opportunities to engage with the curriculum in new and innovative ways. After a busy afternoon, the pupils were delighted when they were treated to some tasty refreshments.
