AN eagerly awaited Offaly derby in the Leinster Colleges Senior “B” Football Championship has fallen victim to the weather today.
Colaiste Choilm in Tullamore and St Mary's, Edenderry were scheduled to meet in a preliminary knockout game in Croghan at lunch time today with a quarter-final place up for grabs. However, the game has now been cancelled following a pitch inspection at Croghan.
The game had originally been fixed for O'Connor Park in Tullamore but was moved out of there on Monday.
While the weather is not as cold today as Monday, there has been little thaw out and pitches have remained frozen.
Leinster Council will now be trying to get the game played before Christmas if they can but their hands are tied as Colaiste Choilm are also in the Leinster Colleges Senior “B” Hurling Championship and are playing Mullingar on Monday. A fixture on Thursday of next week is a possibility but that it remains to be seen if that will happen.
