PICTURES: Inside the homes seized from murdered Irish crime boss's son going to CAB auction

Two houses seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) as part of a case linked to the son of a murdered Irish crime boss are set to be auctioned off later this month.

The properties, both in the Garryowen area of Limerick city, were seized by CAB last October after the High Court ruled they were the proceeds of crime.

The seizures form part of CAB’s case against Kieran Keane Junior, the son of Kieran Keane, who was killed in a brutal gangland murder in January 2003.

Mr Keane was shot dead after members of the McCarthy Dundon crime gang abducted him and his nephew Owen Treacy. Mr Treacy survived after being stabbed multiple times and left for dead. Five men were later jailed for life for the murder.

One of the houses now heading for auction is a three-bedroom mid-terrace property at 7 Sarsfield Court, Garryowen, which carries an advised minimum value of €100,000.

The two-storey house features a lounge and kitchen-dining area on the ground floor, and three bedrooms and a family bathroom upstairs. Outside, there is off-street parking to the front and an enclosed yard to the rear.

Also going under the hammer is 12 The Path, Garryowen, a three-bedroom end-terrace house with an advised minimum value of €120,000.

That property also spans two floors, with living accommodation on the ground floor and three bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, along with off-street parking and a rear yard.

Both homes are located just off the Garryowen Road in a long-established residential area, around a 10-minute walk from Limerick city centre, with nearby amenities including St John’s Hospital, schools, shops and local parks.

The properties will be sold at public auction held by BRG Gibson Auctions at midday on Thursday, February 26, with the proceeds being returned to the exchequer.
