Edenderry Fianna Fail seeking reinstatement of Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick to party

Edenderry cumann of Fianna Fail is to seek the reinstatement of Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick to the party.

Cllr Fitzpatrick stood as an Independent in last year's General Election after he failed to secure a Fianna Fail nomination at convention.

The development emerged at the recent well-attended Fianna Fáil meeting held on Friday, May 16, in O’Donoghues Lounge in Edenderry.

Outgoing Chairperson Cathal Tyrrell gave a comprehensive report to the meeting of what has happened in the cumann since the last meeting.

Cathal informed the meeting that since he is now Secretary of Offaly CDC, he will not be seeking re-election.

Fergal Swaine outgoing Secretary also advised the meeting that he also was not seeking re- election either. Both were thanked for their contribution to Fianna Fáil in Edenderry.

There then followed an election of Officers. John Furey was elected Chairperson for the coming year with Kevin Nolan accepting the role of Vice Chairperson.

Rajesh Ramesh Babu was elected Secretary with Maureen Whelan taking up the position of Assistant Secretary.

Both Dennis Furey and Brendan O’Neill accepted the Treasurers positions.

Robert McDermott was elected PRO with Anthony Redmond Assistant PRO. The position of Ogra Fianna Fáil was filled by Homesh Rajesh. All officers were congratulated and wished the best for the forthcoming year.

Matt McCormack then addressed the meeting on behalf of Tony McCormack TD. He mentioned as promised during the recent General Election he will be opening an office in Granary Court in the coming weeks. It will be opened two mornings a week and all are welcome.

Cllr. Claire Murray offered her apology but sent a report to the meeting which was read out. The highlight of it was the news that she believes the new pool in Edenderry will be open by 2027.

The new Chairperson of Offaly CDC Ronan Feighery was welcomed to the meeting and outlined his ambition of building Fianna Fáil in Offaly.

Under AOB, Robert McDermott requested a letter be sent to the Executive of Offaly Fianna Fáil requesting that they contact head office seeking the reinstatement of Cllr Eddie Fitzpatrick to the party.

This received unanimous support. The meeting closed and all enjoyed some light refreshments.
