‘Fantastic performance’ from National 5 Latin students sees 100% pass rate

A “fantastic performance” by school pupils studying Latin has resulted in a 100% pass rate for the subject at National 5 level.

The Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) revealed all 381 students who sat the exam in 2024 passed, in what it described as a “a truly historic achievement”.

Robert Quinn, the head of English, languages and business for the exam body, said: “It’s rare for a subject to have 100% attainment (A-C pass rate) so this year’s National 5 Latin results are testament to the skills of Scotland’s learners and the high quality of teaching that supports them.”

He added: “There is definitely an enduring appeal to the subject, not just Latin itself but the wider study of the Roman Empire and the classical world.

“And of course, Latin lives on in many aspects of Scottish society, notably our legal system and laws.

“Congratulations to every National 5 Latin learner for their fantastic performance in 2024.”
