A man has been charged in connection with the death of a man and the alleged attempted murder of a woman in Ardrossan, police said.
Officers were called to a report of a disturbance on Montgomerie Street at around 8.15pm on Tuesday.
Emergency services attended and a 59-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene in the North Ayrshire town.
A 24-year-old woman was also injured and was taken to University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock for treatment.
Police said that a 40-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident.
He will appear in court in due course.
