A man has died after being hit by a van in North Ayrshire.
The 37-year-old was struck by a Peugeot Partner near to the Eglinton interchange on the A78 at Irvine at around 12.25am on Friday morning.
Emergency services attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The 49-year-old driver of the van was unharmed.
Sergeant Brian Simpson said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. I would urge anyone who witnessed the crash or who has any information that may assist our inquiry to contact us.
“I would also ask anyone who was driving on the A78 around the time to review their footage and please contact us if it holds anything relevant.”
