Police appeal for information after elderly couple die following car crash

Police have issued an appeal for information after an elderly couple died following a car crash.

The crash happened on Thursday October 3 on the A77 near Monkton, East Ayrshire, when a silver Mercedes A200 and a red Renault Captur collided just before 3.30pm.

An elderly couple travelling in the Renault were taken to hospital but both subsequently died.

The driver, a man aged 82, died on October 6, while the passenger, a woman aged 84, died on Tuesday.

Sergeant Martin Cunningham of Irvine Road Policing said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the two people who died at this very difficult time.

“Inquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are appealing to anyone who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch if you can assist.

“If you were driving in the area and have dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation then please contact us.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2036 of October 3.
