Dog walker assaulted by robbers who tried to steal his pet

A man was left needing medical treatment after being assaulted in a West Lothian town by two robbers who tried to steal his dog.

The 40-year-old was attacked while out walking his dog in an alleyway in the Rigghouse View area of Whitburn, at about 6.40pm on Tuesday.

After unsuccessfully attempting to steal the animal, the two men fled onto nearby Polkemmet Road.

Police are appealing for information about the men, whom they describe as being about 20 years old, dressed in dark clothing, and speaking with Scottish accents.

The 40-year-old received medical treatment at his home from the Scottish Ambulance Service.

Detective Constable Lynn Myles of Livingston CID said: “This was a frightening experience for the victim so it is vital that we establish exactly what happened and trace the two men responsible.

“I would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time who saw or heard anything suspicious.

“Similarly, anyone with private CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam is urged to review the footage and bring anything significant to our attention.

“If you think you can help, please contact us via 101 quoting incident number 2916 of October 15 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
