Police have issued an appeal after a woman died in a car crash which injured two other people.
The crash happened around 11.05am on Thursday, on the A71 east of Newmilns in East Ayrshire.
Emergency services were called after the collision involving a red Ford Focus Zetec and a silver Mercedes Vito.
A 27-year-old woman who had been driving the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene, and the passenger, a man aged 24, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 52-year-old man, was taken to Crosshouse University Hospital in Kilmarnock with non-life-threatening injuries.
The road was closed for crash investigation work and reopened around 9pm.
Sergeant Martin Cunningham said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at what is a difficult time for all.
“Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“In particular, if you were driving in the area at the time please check your dashcam to see if you have anything that could help with our investigation.”
Anyone who can assist is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1148 of Thursday October 17.
