Man arrested after bomb squad explode ‘device’ as homes evacuated

A man has been arrested in connection with the discovery of a suspect item after homes were evacuated and the bomb squad called out.

Police Scotland said the Navy bomb squad carried out a controlled explosion on a device found when searching a property at Overtoun Court, Dunswin Avenue in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire, on Monday.

Several properties were evacuated as a precaution and a cordon was put in place, with residents told it was safe to return to their homes around 2.30am on Tuesday.

Trains running through nearby Dalmuir station were cancelled, disrupting services until Tuesday morning.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested.

Officers remain at the scene and inquiries are continuing.

Chief Superintendent Gary l’Anson, divisional commander for Argyll and West Dunbartonshire, said: “I would like to extend my thanks again to the local community for their patience as we dealt with this incident.

“I understand the inconvenience it will have caused and I am grateful for your co-operation.”
