Boy, 13, among ‘first of many’ arrested over Bonfire Night disorder

A 13-year-old boy is among three people to have been arrested and charged following disorder in Edinburgh on Bonfire Night, with the police labelling them the “first of many”.

The teenager was arrested on Friday in connection with vandalism at the Macklin Motors car dealership on Calder Road, which resulted in more than £20,000 worth of damage to vehicles.

Meanwhile, a 38-year-old man was arrested on Thursday following an incident that saw fireworks set off within a common stair in Dunsire House North.

On Friday, officers also arrested a 40-year-old man in connection with an incident that saw a car containing a “quantity of fireworks” stop among a group of young people.

Police said the youths took possession of the fireworks and used them to cause “disorder and anti-social behaviour” within the Gracemount area of the capital.

Detective Chief Inspector George Calder from Edinburgh CID said: “We made it clear following the disorder that put our communities in a state of alarm on Bonfire Night that we would be unrelenting in our pursuit of those responsible, and these arrests are just the first of many as we continue to pursue various positive lines of inquiry.

“You might think you have evaded arrest, because we’ve not yet come to your door, but we will be doing so imminently.

“The public still have a vital role to play in helping us identify everyone involved in the criminality that took place on November 5 by providing us with photographic or video evidence, via our major incident public portal.

The three are due to appear in court next month.
