An 84-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering a woman in the Borders.
Police said Margaret Maude Hanson, 84, was pronounced dead at a property in Wood Street, Galashiels, on Monday December 9.
Officers were called to a report of the death of a woman at the address at around 3.05am that day.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, her family said: “We are devastated at the loss of our mum and gran.
“Margaret will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
“We would ask that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time.”
John Hanson, 84, of Galashiels, appeared at Selkirk Sheriff Court on Tuesday accused of murder.
He made no plea and was remanded in custody ahead of a further court appearance.
Police Scotland Detective Inspector Debbie Duncan said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Margaret who are being supported by specialist officers.
“We would again ask that their privacy is respected at this time.”
