Man arrested after death of 33-year-old in early hours

An arrest has been made following the death of a man in the early hours of Sunday.

Police were called to a report of a man being injured in Stirling Street in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, at about 2.45am.

The 33-year-old was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police Scotland confirmed a 21-year-old man had been arrested afterwards.

Detective Chief Inspector Jamie Campbell said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time and our officers will continue to support them as the investigation continues.

“I am aware that this incident will be of concern to the local community in Airdrie, but I would like to reassure the public that additional patrols are in the area as part of this ongoing investigation and there is no threat to the wider community.

“I urge anyone with concerns to speak to officers.”

Police are urging anyone with information that might assist the investigation to contact them, and anyone with footage of the incident or drivers with dashcam footage are also encouraged to come forward.
