One man has died and another is in a “critical but stable” condition following a crash on the A75 in Dumfries and Galloway.
The collision, which happened west of the Annan east junction at about 1.50pm on Thursday, involved a red Suzuki Ignis and a black Nissan Pulsar.
Emergency services attended and the driver of the Suzuki, a 66-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Nissan, a 56-year-old man, was taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical but stable.
The road was closed for crash investigation work following the incident, and reopened at about 10.20pm.
Sergeant Neil Moffat said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who died and they have asked for privacy at this difficult time.
“Inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and we are asking anyone who saw what happened to get in touch.
“In addition, if you have a dashcam please check it to see if there is anything that could assist our investigation.”
